Depression Symptoms

Symptoms of depression are scary…..very scary. You can’t believe this can be happening to you. You may prefer a diagnosis of cancer than have to live this way.

Do you have depression?

Common symptoms of depression are sadness, irritability, nervousness, restlessness, isolation, detachment, hazy thought, lack of concentration/focus, numbness of emotions, lethargy, lack of interest, lack of excitement, apathy, problems with multitasking and becoming easily distracted.

Not all of the symptoms of depression are felt at the same time. You may be irritable but not sad. I have highs and lows, a condition of bipolar disorder, although certainly the feelings of elation are not extreme.

Symptoms of my depression may include shortness of breath, panic attacks and tightness in your chest. Fatigue can worsen symptoms of depression. When my symptoms are at their worst, I get very hazy and lose focus. My brain is surrounded by a dark cloud. I am in a daze. It is surreal.

These symptoms are felt at one time or another by nearly everyone. However, for those with depression the symptoms occur in patterns and are hard to shake off. But let’s get one thing out of the way. Depression holds no shame. You did not cause it. It is not your fault. You can manage it. You can even benefit from it.
