Treat Depression – The Promise

Dealing with depression is a serious and sensitive topic, so I feel like I need to tell you a few important things up front. This is my promise to you.

  • Depression can be painful and frightening. This website will always be a safe place for you to find hope and healing for yourself or your loved one. I have experienced depression personally for the past thirty years and I’m now at the stage where I fully understand and embrace my illness. Because I know what it’s like to have depression, I’m not going to judge you.
  • By listening to and digesting my suggestions for mental wellness, a normal life or at least a better life is within reach.
  • I will always be honest with you. Starting by telling you that dealing with depression is a hard work. But it’s worth the effort.
  • Although I talk about natural “cures” for depression on this website, that doesn’t necessarily mean a complete dismissal of depression symptoms for the rest of your life, although it might. Cures, as I define them, are the components of your individual treatment plan that enable you to work, live, and love as fully as possible… the same way people without depression are able to do.
  • You might not see this yet, but depression can actually be a gift. While this might seem counter-intuitive (that is, illness is bad so outcomes are bad), the fact that illness brings about adversity and adversity has silver-linings means that depression has gifts that are assets in our lives. For example, three of the many gifts that depression has bestowed on me are faith, humility and sensitivity. The gifts of depression will vary for each person just as the treatment plan differs for each person. If you or someone you care about is suffering from depression, I’ll help you turn your pain into superpowers.
  • I’m not going anywhere. I am by your side today and I will remain by your side tomorrow. This is my life’s work. I am in this with you. I need you as much as you need me. Those with any form of mental illness form a universal family. In any family there is nothing that one member would not do for another member. And so it shall be in our family!

Treat Depression – Important Disclaimer

The suggestions I offer to help manage depression come from my personal experience dealing with this illness, but I am not a doctor. I am a long-time consumer of mental health. I believe each one of my suggestions will either be neutral or bring about improvement of your depression. My suggestions should not take the place of therapy or the oversight of a doctor’s treatment for depression.

Depression can be dangerous. Dealing with depression isn’t something you should all on your own. Always consult a health care professional when deciding on treatment for depression. While I believe in the value of empowerment and accountability in the treatment of depression, the stakes are simply too high to rely solely on our own judgment.

I read that one Russian artist ridiculed another Russian artist who had killed himself from depression. The artist argued anyone who kills himself or herself is weak and pathetic. Later the accuser killed himself too from depression. None of us can assume dominance or final victory over the disease. We must be vigilant. We must seek outside help.

Depression is a serious medical condition so it must be taken seriously. Failure to do so can endanger our lives or even the lives of others. If desperation from depression becomes all-consuming, take immediate action. Open your treatment toolbox and pull out a trusted tool. Get help. If necessary call 911.
